picblock.jpg The Program

The Agricultural Education major paired with the Leadership option will prepare you for positions in the community, agriculture or business industry and in youth development activities. This form of degree relates to situations and experiences rather than a classroom setting style for education. The audience may be a group of young people, a meeting room of production agriculturalists or a business training room full of new employees.

This program provides you with a broad technical agricultural education, as well as education in leadership theory, presentation strategies, and interpersonal communications. Graduates have gone on to be employed in human resources and training, cooperative extension, non-profit organizations, federal governments, production agriculture and international relations.

A major in agricultural education is designed to prepare students with the necessary communication and interpersonal skills, leadership training and knowledge of technical agriculture for employment in agribusiness leading to positions in training and/or development. The major also prepares students for work in agricultural extension, positions in foreign service, and agricultural educators in business and industry. Many of the students with the Leadership option graduate with a dual major in agricultural education and another major in CASNR.

Students in the Leadership option complete a supervised internship during their third or fourth year. The supervised internship integrates course work with practical experience. Students choose the business, organization or agency for their supervised internship.
