Environmental Education Minor |
The Agricultural Education major paired with the Leadership Option will prepare students with the necessary communication and interpersonal skills, leadership training and knowledge of technical agriculture for employment in agribusiness leading to positions in training and/or development. The major also prepares students for work in agricultural extension, positions in foreign service, and agricultural educators in business and industry. Many of the students graduate with a dual major in agricultural education and another major in the College. Agricultural education majors are provided with many opportunities for career awareness and exploration outside of the classroom.
The major in agricultural education is designed to prepare students with the necessary communication and interpersonal skills, leadership training and knowledge of technical agriculture to be a teacher of agricultural education at the secondary or post-secondary level. The major also prepares students for work in agricultural extension, positions in foreign service, and agricultural educators in business and industry. Agricultural education majors are provided with many opportunities for career awareness and exploration outside the classroom.
Agricultural JournalismThe agricultural journalism major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is offered through the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication in cooperation with the College of Journalism and Mass Communications (CASNR). The major is unique because it prepares students for work in two diverse areas. Because students study specific options in both agriculture and journalism, they are qualified to pursue careers in the combined field, or a career in journalism that does not deal with agriculture, or a career in agriculture without formally using the the skills developed in journalism.
Tourism in Agriculture
Hospitality Restaurant Tourism Management (HRTM) program is a combined effort through the College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources and the College of Education & Human Sciences. The program integrates ecology, natural resources, tourism, recreation, marketing, communications, and entrepreneurial management into a curriculum focused on managing facilities and operations that provide outdoor recreation and agricultural ecotourism experiences to the public. Leadership and Communication Minor
Want to get a head start on marketing your UNL degree? The AgLEC Department has an idea you should consider! Combine your know-how in your major with the know-how to succeed in organizational life after college.
Get in on the ground floor by being among the earliest to enroll in the minor in Leadership and Communication! Combining a minor with your UNL major will enrich your degree and help to open up opportunities for you in the job market.
Studies of organizations show that the two most important characteristics employers associate with success are communication and interpersonal skills. Employers want to hire competent technical professionals who are also strong leaders, effective communicators, and top-notch "people persons".
The Leadership and Communication minor provides focused course-work that strengthens your "employment" base by helping you build leadership and communication skills. These leadership/communication development courses are appropriate for students from every UNL college.

Environmental Communication Minor
Upon completion of the Environmental Communication minor, a student will have had extensive opportunities in written and oral communication, premised on the various IS/ES offerings listed, and other communication specific courses. Another area encompassed within the Environmental Communication minor is enriching the student's understanding of media and emerging new directions and opportunities in advertising, broadcasting, and mass media in relation to the agricultural sciences and natural resources. A student with a minor in Environmental Communication will have acquired a basic understanding of natural resource and environmental policy and legal issues and will be able to effectively and critically conduct analysis in the areas of ethics and value systems in the agricultural sciences, natural resources and environmental/ecological areas. A valuable historical perspective of leadership and the evolution of important intellectual development in the environmental/ecological movement is also a focus of the Environmental Communication minor, with particular emphasis given to the Great Plains.
The minor in Environmental Education is designed to provide additional qualifications for students interested in pursuing a career in the field of environmental and natural resource education. Career options for students pursuing an Environmental Education minor include working in formal and non-formal educational settings; employment in the public or private sector; and serving as Education Specialists, Extension Educators, and Program Leaders. Courses selected for the minor's curriculum were chosen for their holistic perspective and interdisciplinary approach to environmental and natural resource studies. A number of the courses focus regionally on the environment of the Great Plains.
