AgLEC Schedule of Classes
NOTICE: Due to reviews and revisions in graduate curricula and procedures, admission policies, and admission procedures, the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication (AgLEC) is suspending applications to its graduate programs (including Ph.d, Ed.d, and MS) for Spring 2009-10, Summer 2010.
We expect to complete our review by mid-October 2009, and place revised (new) requirements and procedures on our web site and the UNL's graduate college web site.
We anticipate that further information will be in time for applications for the 2010-11 school year. More information will be posted on this web site.

For the Master's programs: ALEC will require applicants to take the GRE or GMAT for admission into the MS program (including the writing test). We will require a minimum score of 3.5 on the written section.
Graduate programs in the department include a Master of Science degree in Leadership Education and a Specialization in Leadership Studies within the Human Sciences doctoral program.
Master of Science in Leadership Education
Enrolling in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication (AgLEC) graduate program offers many choices of courses and programs to suit your interests and career plans. You are also invited to contact graduate faculty members in the department to help you in planning your graduate program.
STUDY LEADING TO A MASTER OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN LEADERSHIP EDUCATION
Programs leading to the Master of Science in Leadership Education provide the opportunity for in-depth study in one or more areas: Leadership Development, Teaching and Extension Education, and Distance Education.
Depending on your interests, the M.S. program will give you the opportunity to:

Investigate the foundations and application in leadership, teaching and learning, and distance education.
-
Specialize in a specific area of leadership education.

Use methods of research and scholarship to examine one topic closely (either in a thesis or special paper).

Build skills in your chosen area of leadership, teaching and extension, or nutrition outreach.

Apply knowledge gained in actual settings, such as education, agribusiness, non-profit, community and government organizations and agencies.
The Master of Science in Leadership Education may be earned with one of four concentrations:
- Leadership Development Emphasis
- Teaching and Extension Education Specialization
- Distance Education Specialization
*Candidates for the degree of Master of Science with a major in Leadership Education must possess a bachelors degree in an appropriate field from an accredited institution.

A Doctoral Specialization in Leadership Studies
Graduate work leading to an Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Human Sciences with a specialization in Leadership Studies may be earned in this interdisciplinary program. The specialization is sponsored by the department of Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication. The faculty encourages students to take classes from several departments campus-wide. Leadership studies is a specialization within the Human Sciences Doctoral program at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Moreover, this program is one of the few doctoral-level leadership programs in the country!
A Doctoral Specialization in Leadership Studies will benefit current and future leaders in communities, government agencies, and private sector organizations. It is ideal for preparing individuals for leadership consulting, organizational change, training and organizational development, multimedia and distance education, personnel and human resource management, leadership faculty positions, entrepreneurship, and community facilitation.

COURSES IN THE LEADERSHIP STUDIES DOCTORAL PROGRAM
Students will have considerable flexibility when they develop their programs of study with their doctoral advisory committee to fit their learning needs. Once admitted to graduate study, students will consult with their advisor to prepare a formal program of study. Specific courses will focus on a common body of knowledge that includes instruction, curriculum, learning, professional education, and uses of technology. Students may select courses from several departments across the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, including Agricultural Leadership, Education and Communication; Communication Studies; Community and Regional Planning; Educational Administration; Management; Psychology, and Sociology.

A few classes can be taken by distance; however, this is not a distance program.
